Bournemouth have completed the signing of Nathan Ake from Chelsea for a club record fee.

Medical scheduled: Chelsea poised to complete Antonio Rudiger signing

The 22-year-old spent the first half of last season on-loan on the south coast before returning to his parent club, playing a bit-part role in Chelsea’s Premier League title success and run to the FA Cup final.

Antonio Conte had been full of praise for the way in which the Netherlands international acclimatised to life back at Stamford Bridge but the versatile defender has now been deemed surplus to his requirements.

‘I had a great time here last season so I’m really happy to be back,’ said Ake, who is believed to have cost the Cherries around £20million.

‘It’s an exciting challenge. Chelsea is a great club and I learned so much there but this is a new step and the right place for me to develop even more.

Antonio Conte on Nathan Ake

‘I am very pleased with Ake’s impact,’ said Conte after a 3-0 win over Everton in April. ‘He came on and he looked like a veteran,’ said Conte.

‘He is only a young player. He is showing great commitment, work-rate and concentration when I ask him to play.

‘It’s not easy to be used to playing every game for Bournemouth and then arrive at Chelsea and be on the bench or sometimes in the stands. But he understands I trust him. I put him in the semi-final against Tottenham, and I put him today in a moment very important for us.

‘I’m also pleased for this because to play a young player is a great thing for us.’

‘The fans haven’t seen the best of me yet. I always set the bar high so I know there is a lot of things I still have to work on.

‘With the help of the manager here I know I can keep improving and become a better player.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe added: ‘I am delighted that we have completed the signing of Nathan on a permanent basis.

‘He is someone we know all about, having had a very successful loan spell here last season.
