Chelsea are willing to break the world record for a defender to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus, according to reports.
The Brazil international is one of Antonio Conte’s priority targets as the Chelsea manager looks to strengthen the left side of his defence before the start of the new season.
And The Times claims that the Premier League champions are willing to pay £61 million for the 26-year-old.
Manchester City set the current world record for a defender last week after spending £52m on signing Benjamin Mendy from Monaco.
Conte, meanwhile, insists he is in constant contact with Chelsea’s hierarchy over transfer targets.
‘With the club we speak every day about the way to strengthen this team and the squad,’ the Chelsea manager said in Singapore.
‘The club knows very well which is my idea and where are the positions to strengthen, and if this is possible, it is okay. If not, we continue this way.

‘It’s normal for every big team to try and reinforce its squad, to improve in the numerical aspect and to improve the quality.
‘I think this is normal. For sure, in England next season, it will be a great challenge for all the teams.’
