Manchester United defender Daley Blind has expressed his hope that the club will re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he makes his comeback from injury.
The Swedish forward is currently a free agent after his one-year contract with United expired at the end of June, but is thought to be in line for a second spell with the club later in the year.
Reports have claimed Ibrahimovic is continuing to train with the Red Devils as he recovers from a knee injury suffered in the Europa League towards the end of last season.
Having scored 28 goals in his first campaign at Old Trafford, Blind has stressed the veteran attacker’s importance to the club due to the lift his presence gave the squad last term.
‘No doubt he would again be another big signing and last year he gave a big boost for the team,’ the Dutchman told NBC Sports.
‘He is still a great player and great person and he makes everything better.’
United signed Romelu Lukaku to fill their striker void this summer, but Ibrahimovic could still have a major role to play even if he doesn’t feature as often as he did last season.
Jose Mourinho recently confirmed there was a chance the 35-year-old could return, saying: ‘It is possible. He was not happy in the way he finished season.

‘We want him to be honest and open and let everything be there for him to make a decision in case his desire was to leave, so there was not a new contract.
‘We opened our door for him to recover with us and then to make a decision.
‘If that decision is for him to stay and for us to wait, let’s say, until December, because I don’t think before December he can be back playing competitive football, then why not?’
