Dave Langhorne won this year’s Liam Chronnell Memorial Trophy for services to boxing in Bolton. The award is in memory of the former Bolton News sports journalist who died suddenly in December 2011. Liam was the paper’s boxing writer and had a passion for the sport and the award was created by The Bolton News to recognise services to boxing in Bolton. This year’s award was presented to Mr Langhorne at the Bolton Active Sports Award at the Macron and he is pictured accepting the award from Liam’s long-time partner Caroline Chronnell. He has been involved in the sport from a young age turning to coaching in his late twenties and at the age of 71 is still heavily involved at Bolton Lads and Girls Club where he has worked for 10 years and and has worked hard to re-launch the boxing section. He works in the club’s boxing section five evenings a week as well as delivering daytime sessions in local schools and colleges.
