Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has confirmed that he was the subject of significant interest from numerous clubs this summer, but will stay at Borussia Dortmund for the upcoming season.

The Gabon international was muted as a potential replacement for Diego Costa at Chelsea, and has long been linked with a reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, while he was also rumoured to be interesting former club AC Milan.

However, the striker – who was on target against Bayern Munich as BVB lost the German Super Cup on penalties on Saturday – says none of those clubs turned their interest into a concrete offer.

Speaking to Welt Am Sunday, he said: ‘No one can say what the future holds. It is true that I talked to BVB before I went on vacation.

‘I told them my thoughts, maybe trying to try something else again. It was open and fair discussions with Michael Zorc and Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool had all been linked with Aubameyang at various points

‘But none of the clubs that wanted me could make a change. So I’ll stay here. And I like staying here very much. I feel at home in Dortmund.’

Aubameyang also confirmed that he received an eye-opening offer from China – which reportedly would have made him the best paid player in the world – but turned it down.

‘Yes, I had an offer,’ he continued. ‘But I think the Chinese have been hard pressed to make an offer to BVB. I think that the structures are not yet as professional as in Europe.

‘I also noticed the back and forth when changing from Anthony Modeste. I am for clear things. And this matter was anything but clear, so I put it aside. I believe in God and fate. I believe that it makes sense that it has come so.’

Speaking of the various rumours that have surrounded him over the summer, he added: ‘I was on vacation, and nothing brings me out of my mind. But of course I [followed the rumours]. I had to laugh a lot.

‘Especially about the many advice given to me: Auba is supposed to do this, Auba is supposed to let that happen. That amused me.

‘My father was never in China. Of course, China was an option. It is normal that you think about it when you are offered so much money.

‘I know that many people have said that you cannot go to China because football is a step back. But I think that every person would think about it when he gets such an offer.’
