A BUSY night of boxing is in store for Alex Matvienko, and he is quietly confident of a hat-trick of victories.

Matvienko, coach at Elite Boxing in Halliwell, has high hopes for his impressive budding star Jack Flatley, who puts his unbeaten record on the line on Friday. The 21-year-old faces Bulgarian veteran Valentin Stoychev at the Macron Stadium hoping to register a fourth win.

And Matvienko says his Farnworth prodigy – whose first two professional outings at Manchester Arena were followed by a bout at Robin Park Arena in Wigan – has the skills to come out on top in another tricky test.

«Stoychev has fought in England a few times, he’s durable, he’s got good experience and likes his big right hands,» he said. «But Jack is unbeaten and he has had some tough tests before so it’s down to him and how he treats the fight.

«He has got to use his boxing skills, he’s looked really good when he’s been sparring in the gym, hopefully he can replicate that on Friday and come out on top.»

Also in action on the Friday The 13th bill is Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Luke Blackledge, who will take on South African Ishmael Tettah. The third Elite fighter to take to the ring that night is Chris Jenkinson, who is scheduled to meet Wythenshawe’s Macauley McGowan, undefeated in his nine professional matches.

«Tettah will be hungry for this fight, South Africans always are,» said Matvienko. «He will have trained hard and he’ll be coming to put up a good fight, but Luke has been very professional, he’s been training like an animal and he’s in great shape. If he wins on Friday his life will change, if he keeps winning something good will come for him down the line.

«It could be coming in as a last-minute replacement for someone, maybe a mandatory or voluntary title shot, but if he keeps focused and keeps winning the law of averages means he will get to fight for a world title one day.

«Chris is probably the town’s most active boxer and McGowan is unbeaten but he won’t present any different challenges to what Chris has faced before. He’s up for it, obviously, it’s got the makings of a good fight.

«I’m going to be busy on Friday but I’ve had four lads on the same bill at the Reebok before now. I’m looking forward to it, hopefully we’ll come out of the night well.»
