Jose Mourinho is confident that Manchester United could sign Eric Dier from Tottenham with a £40 million bid, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror claims that United will launch a move for the England international at the end of the season.
Dier only signed a new £50,000-a-week contract in September, which will keep him tied to Spurs until 2021.
But Mourinho believes the 23-year-old is obtainable this summer.
Last month, reports claimed that the United manager is also ready to promise Dier a role in central midfield with a view to becoming Michael Carrick’s long-term successor.
But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has warned that the club will not be forced into selling players this summer, even if they are offered contracts more lucrative than the ones they signed earlier this season.
‘DL [Levy] said all players were under contracts, contracts they were happy to sign at the time,’ read the minutes from a recent meeting between the Spurs board and members of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust.

‘They would be expected to honour those contracts. They wouldn’t have had a reduction if things had gone badly.
