Philippe Coutinho is in line to make his first Liverpool appearance of the season when the Premier League resumes, Jurgen Klopp has hinted.
The Brazilian remains a Liverpool player after he failed to get his dream move to Barcelona.
The Spanish side were desperate to buy the playmaker, but Liverpool refused every offer that came their way.
Despite not playing for Liverpool so far this season Coutinho has been in action with the Brazil during the current international break. He played and scored on Friday in a 2-0 World Cup qualifier win over Ecuador. He could be in action again on Tuesday for Brazil’s match with Colombia.
When Coutinho returns to Merseyside there have been conflicting reports about what will happen.
It’s been suggested he will refuse to play for Liverpool having been denied his move to Barcelona and there have been talks of an irreparable rupture in his relationship with Klopp. There are also suggestions Coutinho’s team-mates are unhappy at him for handing in a transfer request.
But the Liverpool manager, speaking about the situation for the first time since the transfer window closed on Thursday, has said some reports are misleading and that Coutinho ‘can play’.
‘Don’t believe everything in the press or that there are offers here and there and that the minute after the offer has been entered, it should already be over,’ he told German media outlet SPORT1.
‘We are not like George Orwell where everybody knows everything immediately. We have exactly the situation we wanted and no other.
‘Dortmund decided the player [Ousmane Dembele who joined Barcelona over the summer] would leave them, so I cannot compare the two situations.
‘We still have a really good player in the squad who can play.’
