BOLTON superstar Amir Khan is targeting a showdown with former stablemate Manny Pacquiao for his next fight.

The 28-year-old welterweight had hoped to face Floyd Mayweather but knows that is unlikely now the unbeaten American has announced his retirement.

But on his return from taking aid to refugees in Greece, Khan said Pacquiao would be his first-choice after Mayweather.

However, he also suggested an all-British clash against Kell Brook remains a possibility.

Khan told The Bolton News: «I think Manny Pacquiao would be the priority because I don’t know how long he has got left in his career, I think he would be the first fight to take.

“But then you have got Kell Brook, which is a fight I would love to take as well, Virgil (Hunter, trainer) wants it and I want it.

“It would be a big British fight and me and Kell are of a similar age, so I think maybe it works out better to have that fight happen a bit later when he has built his reputation up a little more and fought some bigger and better names, but you know there is a fight there one day.

“It might be a little bit of a grudge match (with Brook) it’s all about just setting out who is the number one in Britain in the welterweight division – is it Kell Brook or Amir Khan? – it is about setting the record straight.

“Manny P was probably number two pound-for-pound so by fighting him and beating him, it might get me to be the number one pound for pound fighter and then you get someone like Floyd Mayweather who might say I will come out of retirement and fight him – imagine that.”
