Manchester United fans were jubilant on Thursday night as the Red Devils sneaked past Celta Vigo to book their place in the Europa League final, and they woke up to another treat on Friday morning thanks to Kylian Mbappe.
Jose Mourinho’s side endured a nervy 90 minutes at Old Trafford despite opening the scoring early on through Marouane Fellaini’s far-post header.
Facundo Roncaglia’s 85th-minute goal made for an exciting finale, before both he and Eric Bailly were shown red cards, while John Guidetti missed a clear-cut chance to win the tie at the death.

United striker Marcus Rashford took to Instagram after the game to express his delight at reaching another final, his third after last year’s FA Cup and this season’s EFL Cup, and it drew the attention of one of the most-sought after players in world football.
‘Another final! Amazing,’ Rashford wrote on Instagram, a message which seemed to appeal to Monaco’s in-demand youngster Mbappe, who duly liked the post.
Mbappe is widely expected to leave Monaco this season after a stunning breakthrough campaign; the 18-year-old has netted 14 Ligue 1 goals in 26 appearances this season and starred in Europe.

Kylian Mbappe | What the experts say
Thierry Henry: ‘My word, he is good. Ooh la la. I met him, and he gave me the impression that he has a good head on his shoulders. l really like watching him play. When I watch him dribble, he’s thinking. He thinks when he plays and that for me is the most important thing in a player. He thinks. He uses his brain. Yes, he’s quick, but he’s thinking and that is the sign of a kid who can go a long way in the game.’
Arsene Wenger: ‘He is not exactly Thierry Henry but it is true that he has similar qualities and the future and talent is similar. The potential is similar, after that if he has the same level of motivation, desire and intelligence that Thierry has, and the next two to three years will tell us that, then he can be very promising.’
Radamel Falcao: ‘He is a very good player, very young and he is proving himself in every game. He always tries to show up and contribute to the team. I hope you understand.’
Antonio Conte: ‘I don’t like to speak about players from other teams but in this case I think it’s normal to tell that he’s a really good prospect. He’s a prospect who’s very important for football. For sure, he’s very young and he’s [got] a lot of room to improve. He has great characteristics to become a top [player].’
The France international became the youngest scorer in a Champions League semi-final when he notched a consolation goal against Juventus, bringing his tally in Europe’s premier club competition to six.
Real Madrid are believed to be leading the race for Mbappe’s signature, though there is hardly a club in Europe who have not been linked with the teenager, with United among those hoping to land a player dubbed ‘the new Thierry Henry’.
