Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has given an interview on the club’s official website apologising for transfer rumours spread by his agent this summer.
The Italy international has been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea and was rumoured to be unwilling to train with PSG again as he looked to force a move away from the club.
However, Verratti insists he is fully committed to the club and happy to remain at the Parc des Princes, and insists the words of his agent are not his own.
‘I saw what my agent said and I just want to say that they are not my words at all,’ he said.
‘I want to apologise to everyone at the club: the president, the fans and the players.
‘I am very happy here. We go back to training now. I am thrilled to be back here and start working again.
‘I know the club trusts me and I really want to apologise once again.
‘I have a lot of respect for Paris Saint-Germain. I became the player I am today thanks to the club and that’s why I am deeply sorry. They were not my words and he (my agent) made a big mistake.

‘I hope that this will not happen again … I will do my best as I always do for the club.’
Recent reports claimed Verratti had rejected a new contract offer from PSG, with the club’s former sporting director Patrick Kluivert insisting it was true he wanted to leave for Barcelona.
‘Verratti renewed last year for four years and I know that Verratti wants to come to Barca but PSG will not let him,’ Kluivert said last month.
Barcelona have been keen to land the 24-year-old playmaker as a long-term replacement for club legend Xavi, but will surely now have to look elsewhere to strengthen in that position this summer.
