As Neymar’s move to Paris Saint-Germain edges closer, the Brazilian has been told he can have his favourite number having previously been forced to wear the No.11 at Barcelona.

Neymar pays £198m buyout clause to Barcelona ahead of Paris Saint-Germain transfer

The 25-year-old is set to be unveiled as the world’s most expensive player by the end of the week, with PSG wrapping up the final details of his £198 million move to the French capital.

And when he gets there, he will be handed the No.10 jersey – the shirt number he wears for Brazil but which was taken by Lionel Messi while he was at Barcelona.

Neymar is believed to have left Camp Nou partly to escape the Argentine’s shadow, and that decision is already being justified after new teammate Javier Pastore offered to vacate the No.10 shirt so the Brazilian could have it.

‘I want him to feel comfortable and happy from day one,’ Pastore is quoted by Cadena SER. ‘I want to offer my number to Neymar as a welcome gift.

‘As the first one here, I want to offer all the support necessary so we can go on and win the Champions League.

‘[The number] isn’t a big deal, but it meant a lot for me to wear it and now I want to welcome [Neymar] with this small gesture.’

Pastore communicated his decision to sporting director Antero Henrique and president Nasser Al Khelaifi, who are busily preparing for a spectacular unveiling for when Neymar is officially a PSG player.

Pastore, meanwhile, has been assured that he still has a future at the club despite Neymar’s arrival, although the French giants are known to need to sell several players to balance the books.
