Former Manchester United ace Owen Hargreaves has questioned Arsenal’s failure to sign Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele from Rennes last summer.
The France wonderkid was wanted by a number of top European clubs but opted to join Dortmund ahead of the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United.
The 19-year-old’s flourished in the Bundesliga, scoring nine goals in 48 appearances during his debut campaign in Germany.
Arsene Wenger spent around £100m last summer and recruited the likes of Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi, Lucas Perez and Rob Holding.
However, the Gunners have struggled this season to score goals and Hargreaves believes Dembele was the perfect fit for the Emirates.
‘Arsenal need the right striker,’ Hargreaves told BTSport.
‘Dembele from Dortmund, he’s only 19 years old.
‘He is one of the best players in the Bundesliga. He has the potential to be a superstar.
‘That’s what Arsenal need. I am surprised they did not try to recruit him.’
