Paul Pogba has explained how Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains a real leader at Manchester United despite not currently being able to play for the club.

The 35-year-old’s career is strangely in limbo at the moment, with his contract with the Red Devils expiring at the end of last season and no new deal yet to be confirmed due to his recovery from a bad injury.

Ibrahimovic suffered a cruciate ligament injury towards the end of last season and is not expected back until December, though he continues to train with United in the mean time.

Despite links with LA Galaxy, it seems the veteran Swede is set to remain with the club and Jose Mourinho has said he could yet earn a new deal depending on his fitness later this year.

Pogba is a big fan of what Ibrahimovic offers off the pitch as well as on it, saying he continues to learn from him and his tremendous leadership skills.

‘Obviously Zlatan is a leader, always a big leader,’ Pogba said.

‘And he’s still a big leader because he’s still in the team, even he’s not playing he’s a leader outside of the pitch.’

Pogba added that he hoped he could become an increasingly influential and commanding figure for the club, saying he has much he wants to pick up from players like Ibrahimovic and Michael Carrick.

‘I’ve been playing for one season, I came here to hopefully be a leader as well in the team and that’s not, like the objective, but that’s how you should be,’ he said.

‘I’ve been here, we won, and we want to grow up as a player and a leader as well. I can learn from him (Ibrahimovic), from Carras, from all the players and become a leader.’
