Paul Pogba is actively attempting to convince Manchester United officials to sign Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in France.

The Ivory Coast right-back fell out of favour with Unai Emery last season and the Spanish coach confirmed on Thursday that the 24-year-old is determined to leave the Parc des Princes this summer.

Matic, Dier, Perisic or Aurier — who should be Man Utd's transfer priority?

‘I spoke with Serge to tell him that I wanted him to stay,’ Emery told L’Equipe.

‘He told me that he wants to leave and he preferred staying in Paris to prepare for his departure.’

Aurier, a powerful and attack-minded right-back, has a emerged as a reported target for Jose Mourinho who stumbled upon a makeshift solution in the shape of Antonio Valencia last term.

The long-serving Ecuador international excelled in an unfamiliar position but Mourinho is on record as wanting to reinforce his squad further before the start of the season having already added Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof to his ranks this summer.

Jose Mourinho on Man Utd's transfer window

‘When I look to the team and Lukaku, Lindelof, I would like my squad to be here, my whole squad, if you manage to get one more player – I’m not even crying for two – if we get one player as soon as possible,’ Mourinho said after United’s 2-0 win over Manchester City in Houston, Texas.

‘Because we can see Lindelof is in a team, Lukaku is in a team, the understanding between the players, the Paul [Pogba] pass, the way Lukaku holds the ball. But the preparation is fantastic.’

According to Goal, Pogba, who is thought to have played a key role in convincing Lukaku to choose Old Trafford ahead of a return to Stamford Bridge, is said now be lobbying key United figures to press ahead with a move for the his close friend Aurier, who has a controversial recent past.

The former Toulouse was banned from entering the UK last year for a Champions League game with Arsenal after he was charged with assaulting a police officer and is set to undergo trial next month.
