Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says Victor Lindelof is capable of playing in central midfield this season.
The Swede has played as a central defender since completing his £30million move from Benfica earlier this summer.
The 23-year-old struggled in stages of United’s pre-season but Mourinho insists the Sweden international will be given enough time to settle in at the club.
United have made three signings so far this summer and are targeting a wide player in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
However, Mourinho says he will move on if the club fail to make another signing and says players like Lindelof are capable of occupying other positions.
Referring to the club’s remaining transfer business, Mourinho said: ‘25% means one of four, and we got a central defender that can play in many other positions, which is important.
‘Victor can play right back and can play central midfield, we got a central midfielder [Matic], we got a striker [Lukaku], obviously the 25% would be a player for another position playing from the sides.
‘But we have players and if we cannot strengthen the team in these areas we have people we can trust and go for it.’
